Sydney’s beloved pub Shakespeare company, Bar’d Work, is set to captivate audiences once again with a new season of its acclaimed 90-minute adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” aptly titled “The Shakesbeer Sessions.” This highly anticipated return will see performances scheduled for The Oaks Neutral Bay on Sunday, October 26th, and Sunday, November 16th.
Bar’d Work, founded in 2019, has rapidly become a beloved fixture in the Australian pub scene, delighting thousands with their unique and interactive singalong versions of Shakespearean comedies. Their mission is to strip away the formality often associated with Shakespeare, bringing it back to its roots as “live, bawdy, and energetic entertainment.” This has been a hit with audiences, with multiple sold-out shows across Sydney and Melbourne, as well as regional tours throughout New South Wales and Victoria.
Twelfth Night follows the resourceful Viola, who, after a shipwreck, believes her twin brother Sebastian to be lost at sea. In a desperate bid for survival Viola disguises herself as a man named Cesario and enters the service of Duke Orsino. This act of mistaken identity sets in motion a hilarious and often poignant chain of events.
Bar’d Work’s adaptation promises to deliver all the wit and charm of the original, infused with their interactive style, ensuring an unforgettable theatrical experience to go along with a few beers.
