A North Sydney Bears stuffed bear mascot has reappeared after a hiatus from its prime position at the leagues club entrance – but this time, at an auction house.

The 2.3 metre tall stuffed grizzly bear has also inhabited the grounds of Mogo Zoo on the south coast.

Marked under the ‘furniture and interiors’ category, the creature’s slightly raggedy exterior – complete with dust and cobwebs – was put up for sale with an asking price of between $10 to $15 thousand.

It was passed in on Thursday.

Local auctioneers Lawsons are managing the sale with the item currently having received 13 bids, sitting at $800, as of Monday at 11am.

Members of the club say it should return to its rightful place at the venue in Cammeray.

One wrote in The Den North Sydney Bears True Supporter’s Facebook Group,  “The dear old fella has to come home to his rightful owners.”

Another emailed the Sun, adding “with talk about the Bears returning to the NRL it seems only natural that [the bear] should have pride of place back at the club”.

Others questioned who was selling the mascot after its disappearance many years ago.

North Sydney Bears has been contacted for comment.
