The Living Futures Sustainability final festival day at the Coal Loader has been postponed due to heavy rain and thunderstorms forecasted this weekend.
On Sunday April 30, the Bureau of Meteorology has predicted up to 60mm of possible rainfall with a very high chance of showers and possible thunderstorms.
Organisers are working with stakeholders to finalise another date later in the year to host the event, which was intended to be the final day of celebrations following a week long of talks, events and workshops relating to sustainable living.
“While we understand this is disappointing news, we prioritise keeping all staff, stallholders, and attendees safe while delivering the best event experience possible,” a statement by the Council said.
Plans for the big day out were to centre around ‘inspiration, information, entertainment and fun for the whole family’; including stage entertainment, workshops, stalls, kids’ activities, guided walks and tours.
A whole stage and secret garden was to be dedicated to the kids, with live music all day from The Vegetable Plot, bubble play and eco face-painting.
Little ones could also join in with storytime run by Stanton Library, discover sessions from Sydney Wildlife Displays, art from The Sydney Seahorse Project and a scavenger hunt.
To keep tummies full and smiles on face, there were plans for a range of kid and planet-friendly food and a solar-powered ice cream truck.
A collection of repair experts to lend a hand in fixing broken and old items were to be present on the day, including teams from Repair Cafe Sydney North, Textile Sydney, Pedal Set Go and Revolve Recycling.
Talks hosted by various speakers across multiple aspects of sustainability were to go ahead, including presentations by TV presenter Costa Georgiadis, Olympian and youth oceans sustainability champion Sam Fricker, and Indigenous educator and performer Charleen Aguiar Dos Santos.
The red carpet was to be rolled out for cyclists, with plans for visitors to access free bike valet parking, free bike tune ups and e-bike demos alongside electric car demo models and drop-in info sessions.
Updates on the new date will be announced on social media and the North Sydney Council website as soon as possible.
