The 2024 North Sydney Art Prize is now open for entries, with budding artists encouraged to attend one of the upcoming information sessions run by Council.
Running between May 11 to June 2 next year, the exhibition will be showcased at the Coal Loader in Waverton.
Due to the site’s unique layout, prospective artists are able to submit creations of all mediums; ranging from 2D, 3D, installation-based works and site specific work.
The biannual art event will take place in the underground tunnels, chambers and in other locations across the site – with the curatorial theme drawing inspiration from the Coal Loader’s overarching principles as a community hub and a site of industrial heritage and environmental sustainability.
There is over $35,000 in prize money up for grabs, with a whopping $20,000 handed over to the winner of the Major Open Award.
$12,000 will go to the Sculpture Award, whilst one lucky artist will walk away with $5000 from the Site Specific Award.
Emerging Artist Award has a prize fund of $2000, whilst $1000 will be awarded to those who take out the Award for Drawing, sponsored by the Royal Art Society, and Award for Work on/with Paper, sponsored by the Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre.
North Sydney Council are encouraging anyone interested in submitting a work for the tunnels, chambers, outdoor works, site specific, installation, ephemeral or large sculptures to attend an online or onsite information session.
There will be in-person information sessions available. Those interested can choose from either November 8, 9-10am or 3-4pm or November 14, 10-11am or 1-2pm with sessions starting at the lower level outside Tunnel 1 at the Coal Loader.
Entries for the Art Prize close at 5pm on November 30 and winners will be announced on January 19.
