After four years of pleasing palettes all around the markets of Sydney, popular food stall Cotenna has opened a permanent store in Cremorne. Walk or drive past and you might miss it nestled above a hair studio and a florist on the second floor at shop 6/271 Military Rd. Cotenna’s somewhat hidden location could make it one of the top hidden foodie gems in Sydney.
Co-owned by Amy Wheater and head chef Jamie, the pair originally envisioned a food truck but pivoted to markets to test the waters. Cotenna built a loyal following at Northside Produce Market and various markets across the North Shore.
The transition to a permanent location in Cremorne happened just before Christmas 2025, utilising a space that previously served as their prep kitchen. Their idea was to create a space that felt less like a commercial restaurant and more like home, where customers could enjoy their food outside of market appearances.
“One of our Google reviews… said that walking into our restaurant wasn’t like walking into a restaurant, it was like walking into someone’s home,” Wheater shares. “That’s exactly what we want… we just want people to feel really comfortable. So that’s kind of the goal with us, just to be very community minded.”

The star of their menu remains their signature porchetta roll, which is prepared with a 72-hour air-drying process before being slow-cooked for up to four hours in a rotisserie. While traditionally made with loin, Cotenna uses pork belly with pork neck inside for superior flavor, seasoned with garlic, rosemary, fennel, salt, pepper, and lemon.
The menu also features rotisserie chicken, special rice stuffing, rotisserie chorizos, and the fan-favorite “porchetta popcorn”—popcorn cooked in porchetta fat and seasoned with “crack salt.” What’s even better is the popcorn is on the house!
For those looking for a full meal, the “rotisserie box” allows customers to choose a main with two sides, such as dripping potatoes or rotisserie cauliflower, and two sauces.
Cotenna is also licensed for both dine-in and takeaway, offering Australian craft beers. A bonus that highlights their community focus, they also allow BYO wine with no corkage fee. “We’re trying to be quite generous and make it a place that’s really affordable for people to be able to come quite often,” says Wheater.

Despite the success of the new storefront, the team has not left their markets roots behind. “We didn’t want to give up on the markets because that’s obviously a big part of our revenue as well and keeps the place afloat, plus the team really enjoy doing it,” Wheater says.
Cotenna still might be one of the North Shore’s best kept foodie secrets, so get in quick to enjoy their signature flavors, Aussie beers and warm hospitality.
