Crows Nest Community Centre will host a Japanese Market on Saturday, October 18, featuring a huge variety of Japanese food, handmade goods and workshops. The event will run as a pop up alongside the monthly Rotary Crows Nest Markets. 

The event is organised by Rie Okazawa the owner of craft company Minime on the Cake. “There’s something to enjoy for everyone — whether you’re from Japan or simply love Japanese culture!’ Okazawa said about the markets. 

Attendees can expect a selection of food and treats, including cakes, Japanese sweets, breads, coffee, tea, bento boxes, and freshly made savory pancakes. Beverages will include a selection of chakra teas and traditional and modern Japanese teas, as well as iced coffee.

The handmade market will showcase a range of finely crafted items. Products available will include kimonos, haoris, obis, and accessories, Japanese knot accessories, dried flower arrangements, fabric and beaded accessories, macrame, plants, and crystal soaps. Also featured will be natural skincare products, Japanese sumi-e and print goods, box-type pouches, living herbs, handmade crochet and clay accessories, handmade stickers with original illustrations, and fake food figure keychains.

Workshops and experiences will also be running throughout the day. Activities include calligraphy workshops, sumi-e art workshops, fake sweets making, and Japanese sweets making paired with tea. Self-care experiences will include Australian bush flower essence workshops and mini iridology checks, aroma bottle making, and treatments of ear acupressure jewelry. Visitors can also learn Japanese with handmade materials.

The event is free, will run from 9am to 4pm.
