The iconic Commodore Hotel in McMahons Point has officially reopened its doors after an extensive, year-long transformation, reverting to its original and historic name: The Old Commodore Hotel.

The pub’s moniker pays homage to Billy Blue, a legendary and pioneering boatman who once ferried passengers across the harbour from what is now known as Blues Point. The establishment itself boasts a rich history, originally opening its doors way back in 1854.

Upon entering from Union Street, or ascending the newly designed stairs from Blues Point Road, patrons will discover a completely rejuvenated main bar. The new bar, featuring a beautiful gold finish, is now more spacious, with the pokies and sports bar thoughtfully relocated downstairs to create more seating.

The Old Commodore now embraces a creative maritime theme, with art and trinkets adorning the space, adding distinct character and a subtle nod to its namesake. The main bar offers a fantastic inside-outside dynamic, thanks to an extended roof that allows for ample light and fresh air.

Stepping out onto the terrace, new floors, furniture, and an expanded layout highlight what is sure to become one of the best spots north of the bridge to enjoy a beer. The previous stairs have been replaced with additional balcony seating, offering that same lovely view.

The culinary experience has also been updated, with a new menu that still features all the beloved pub classics. Adjacent to the main bar, a renovated indoor dining room provides a fresh ambiance with renewed furniture, fittings, and even more creative decorative touches.

Perhaps one of the most significant changes is the transformation of the downstairs area. Previously a simple carpark, fridges, and keg room, this space has been ingeniously converted into an intimate sports bar, complete with comfortable booth seating and huge screens. The pokies lounge is also situated here.

Looking ahead, the Old Commodore is aspiring to become a vibrant hub for live music, DJs, and dancefloors – a welcome addition to the North Shore’s entertainment scene, where such venues can be hard to find. With a fresh look and feel, this historic pub is ready to welcome back its patrons. Welcome back, Old Commodore Hotel!
