A variety of events have been announced to mark Youth Week, including the return of the popular Colourfest event at St Leonards Park, Saturday, 18 April.
NSW Youth Week began in 1989 as a NSW Government initiative established to celebrate young people aged 12–24, and this year will run 16 to 26 April.
Colourfest features the colour run and a relay challenge for teams of four. Attendees can also enjoy live music, prizes, giveaways, and free activities throughout the afternoon.
Now in its fourth year, Colourfest has become a staple Youth Week event on the Lower North Shore, drawing young people from across North Sydney, Mosman, and surrounding areas.
There will also be a range of events throughout the week at The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, which organisers hope will offer hands-on opportunities for young people and the wider community to explore creativity and self-expression.
The Flip Fashion Forever Holiday Workshop – Friday April 17
A one-day, hands-on sewing and upcycling workshop for young people aged nine to 18. Guided by eco-minded young fashion creatives, participants will rework second-hand garments using sewing, embellishment, and surface design techniques, with no prior experience required.
The Coal Loader Fashion Revolution Clothes Swap – Saturday 18 April
A market-style exchange involving swapping, restyling, and mending clothes. It will feature a talk and styling demonstration by sustainable fashion expert Nina Gbor.
The Youth-Led Sewing Circle – Saturday 18 April
A drop-in creative space for all ages to sit, sew, and create together. Participants bring along their own sewing project or find new materials by upcycling garments from the co-located clothes swap. Friendly guides will be available to offer support.
Colourfest is delivered in partnership with Mosman, Willoughby, and City of Ryde Councils, along with Headspace and NSW Health.
