John Browne has been appointed as the new Principal of St Aloysius’ College, Kirribilli, set to commence in early Term I, 2026.
Browne joins the school from Stoneyhurst College in Lancashire, England, where he has been Headmaster since 2016. Prior to this, he served as Headmaster of St Aloysius’ College, Glasgow from 2013-2016. Both institutions are Catholic Jesuit Schools, reflecting Browne’s familiarity with the order that operates St Aloysius’ College, Kirribilli. He is also an alumnus of St Ignatius’ College, Enfield in London.

The College stated, “John is a recognised leader in education in the UK and within the Jesuit community both in Australia and internationally. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of Cura Personalis, Faith and Justice, Academic Excellence and the Co-Curricular program; our four pillars that are at the heart of what we do at Aloys.”
Mr. Browne will succeed acting principal Kate Quinane, who took on the role after Mark Tannock moved to St Ignatius College, Riverview, in December 2024. Tannock had been the principal since 2014, making him the first non-priest to lead the school since its establishment in 1879.
