North Sydney Council is advancing an upgrade to key walking routes between Wollstonecraft and Crows Nest, aiming to improve connectivity and safety. The initiative is part of a push to link surrounding areas to the Crows Nest Metro Station, Pacific Highway and Willoughby Road.
The proposal, currently open for public consultation, focuses on introducing new, high-visibility pedestrian crossings along Nicholson Street at two critical intersections: Nicholson Street and Hume Street, and the junction of Nicholson Street, Shirley Street, and Sinclair Street.

Key improvements include the installation of raised pedestrian crossings complemented by kerb extensions. At the Nicholson Street/Hume Street intersection, a raised crossing will be built on the north-eastern and south-eastern arms, along with kerb build-outs on the opposite corners. A similar raised crossing and kerb extension is planned for the Nicholson Street/Shirley Street/Sinclair Street intersection.

The plan will see the removal of five parking spaces to ensure clear sight lines for drivers approaching the new crossings. The Nicholson Street/Hume Street intersection will see the removal of roughly two spaces on Nicholson Street, and the centre line on Hume Street will be realigned. The second location, Nicholson Street/Shirley Street/Sinclair Street, will require the removal of around three parking spaces on Nicholson Street.
The public can now provide feedback on the proposal until Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
