North Sydney Council has begun installing 60 new electric vehicle charging bays across its local government area, following grant funding from the NSW Government’s kerbside and fast charging infrastructure programs.

The chargers are being deployed across ten council-managed sites in North Sydney, Kirribilli, Cammeray, Wollstonecraft, Cremorne and Crows Nest—including a major 26-bay installation on Holtermann Street. The mix includes ultra-rapid 150kW DC, 75kW rapid DC and 22kW AC chargers, operated by NRMA, Evie and ChargePost.

Contactless payment and app-based access are supported across the network, while drivers using the ChargePost units will need to supply their own cable.

According to council, the rollout responds to local demand for public charging in a densely populated area where many residents do not have off-street parking. “Many North Sydney residents want to embrace electric vehicles,” said mayor Zoë Baker. “These new chargers provide the vital charging infrastructure people need to take that step and transition to an electric vehicle.”

“More electric vehicles on our roads mean lower emissions, better air quality, and a cleaner future,” she added.

The largest installation is the Holtermann Street car park in Crows Nest, offering 26 bays of 22kW AC charging. Other sites include:

  • Alexander Street, Crows Nest (NRMA) – 8 bays, 150kW DC

  • Hume Street, Crows Nest (Evie) – 4 bays, 75kW DC

  • Parraween Street, Cremorne (Evie) – 4 bays, 75kW DC

  • Miller Lane, Cammeray (Evie) – 4 bays, 75kW DC

  • Ridge Street, North Sydney (Evie) – 4 bays, 75kW DC

  • Nicholson Street, Wollstonecraft (ChargePost) – 4 bays, 22kW AC

  • Hipwood Street, Kirribilli (ChargePost) – 4 bays, 22kW AC

  • Ted Mack Civic Park, Kelrose Lane, North Sydney (ChargePost) – 4 bays, 22kW AC

  • Ward Street, North Sydney (ChargePost) – 2 bays, 22kW AC

The Alexander Street site is expected to be completed by the end of July.
