Nine months after officially opening, the Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway Ramp now has a permanent name: Patyegarang (pronounced Pa-te-ga-rang).
Patyegarang was a Cammeraygal woman, diplomat, and cultural figure known for playing a vital role in sharing her language and preserving First Nations knowledge to bridge colonial and Indigenous communities.
The name was selected through a collaborative consultation process between Transport for NSW and local Aboriginal community members.
Passers-by will notice the new bronze signage on the repurposed bridge parapet at the mouth of the ramp. The sign design is based on the handwriting of Lieutenant William Dawes, who recorded the language of Patyegarang’s Cammeraygal people in his notebooks.

A new cyclist counter board has also been unveiled, displaying live statistics on daily and yearly usage of the cycleway.
Transport for NSW reports that Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway usage has grown by 30% since the opening of the ramp on 6 January, averaging 1,600 daily riders over the past six months.
