An investigation is underway following a serious incident in St Leonards where a pedestrian was struck by a police vehicle on Monday evening.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:20 pm on June 1, 2026. Officers from the North Shore Police Area Command were reportedly responding to reports of a fire at a park near Christie Street when the collision took place on the Pacific Highway.

A 9-year-old boy was struck by the marked police car as it arrived at the scene. Police officers provided immediate first aid to the child before NSW Ambulance paramedics took over treatment. The young pedestrian was subsequently transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the patrol vehicle, a male senior constable, underwent a mandatory roadside breath test following the crash. Police confirmed the test returned a negative result.

A crime scene was established on the Pacific Highway as specialist officers commenced an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
