Neutral Bay’s Young Street Plaza is in for a makeover with Council seeking community feedback on a final hybrid design that allows for through traffic. The plaza has been in limbo for several years with a temporary set-up.
Plans currently include the planting of new trees plus addition of seating, a play area and a pedestrian thoroughfare.
It comes alongside proposed changes to the Grosvenor Lane shared zone which will see Young Street reopened in one direction to allow traffic to flow onto Military Road.
Drivers will only be able to turn left when driving down Grosvenor Lane into Young Street.
Transport for NSW is funding the works as a part of a funding agreement with Council for streetscape upgrade works to complement the Northern Beaches B-Line Bus Service.
The funding deed was approved in October 2018, with a trial closure of Young Street in December 2020.
Two years later, Council controversially resolved to reopen the road with the new design seemingly striking a compromise.
Those interested in having their say can attend a pop-up information stall on either May 20, 10am to 12pm, or May 28, 3pm to 5pm, on the corner of Young Street and Military Road.
Community members are also encouraged to submit their feedback via the council website.
Feedback closes on June 12.
