North Sydney Council is likely to extend the lease for Cammeray Golf Club, linking the new expiry date to the ongoing Warringah Freeway Upgrade.

The Council, which manages The Cammeray and Green Park Reserve Park Trust, originally leased the 12.7-hectare site to the Cammeray Golf Club Limited for 20 years starting in June 2006. The reserve is the largest single area of open space in the North Sydney area.

However, the site’s future has become complicated after Transport for NSW (TfNSW) took over more than 1.5 hectares of the land to complete the Warringah Freeway Upgrade. At a meeting on August 25, 2025, the Council reviewed a request from TfNSW to extend their own construction lease over the course until September 30, 2029.

Given the uncertainty about when all the land will be returned after the freeway work is finished, the Council plans to extend the Golf Club’s current lease for specific parts of the land until September 30, 2029, to match the TfNSW construction lease expiry.

In addition to the lease decision, the Council is also working with the community to develop a long-term masterplan for the entire site.

A final vote is expected at the Council’s last meeting of 2025, where they are anticipated to approve the Chief Executive Officer to sign the formal agreement for the lease extension.
