The Lower North Shore has several events commemorating ANZAC Day on Saturday, 25 April, starting with the Dawn Service in North Sydney. The free ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held from 5:45 am to 7:00 am at the North Sydney War Memorial in St Leonards Park (Ridge St side). Hosted by the North Sydney RSL Sub-Branch, the ceremony will include a commemorative address, the last post and a wreath-laying. On-site seating will be available for seniors.
The Greens North Sydney, located adjacent to the War Memorial at 50 Ridge St, will open its doors with a coffee cart and BBQ serving bacon and egg rolls from 4:30 am.
Following the dawn service, a special breakfast service will begin at 6:00 am. Afternoon activities at The Greens include live entertainment and traditional Two-Up on the bowling green starting at 12:00 pm.
Other clubs are also hosting services, including The Neutral Bay Club, which opens at 10:00 am, with its ANZAC service at 11:00 am followed by Two-Up and food and drink specials.
The Cammeray Golf Club will hold a service later in the day at 12:45 pm, followed by Two-Up from 1:00 pm. Their Lusso Kitchen will be serving wood fire pizzas and a special ANZAC menu, and a DJ will start at 3:00 pm.
The day continues with numerous local pubs and clubs hosting commemoration events and the traditional games of Two-Up.
A number of venues start their commemorative activities and Two-Up games from 12:00 pm. This includes The Old Commodore Hotel (doors open 10:00 am), which will host Two-Up on its terrace and feature all-day drinks, standard pub fare, and live music across the weekend.
The Rag & Famish Hotel, a classic local spot for post-service gatherings, will open at 10:00 am with Two-Up starting at midday.
Norths Cammeray, will open its doors for Two-Up starting at 1:00 pm.
The Crows Nest Hotel will host Two-Up from 12:00 pm on the terrace, along with a sausage sizzle from midday (until sold out) and DJs throughout the night.
Other venues supporting the tradition include The Union Hotel which opens at 10:00 am, offering traditional Two-Up, live music, and footy on the TV, alongside collecting donations for Legacy.
The Greenwood Hotel opens at 10:30 am, featuring a large Two-Up arena and will donate $1 from every Carlton Draught sold to the Legacy Foundation.
The North Sydney Hotel will offer Two-Up from 12:00 pm, supported by $10 pints of Depot, a sausage sizzle, and a pop-up bar.
Along Military Road, The Oaks will start Two-Up at 1:00 pm and feature pop-up bars, live music, and a special ANZAC menu. Minskys Hotel will host Two-Up in their Sports Bar from 12:00 pm until sunset, with food and drink specials all day, and live music from 6:00 pm followed by a DJ from 9:00 pm.
A reminder for current and former ADF members is that they, along with their families or carers, can travel free on Sydney public transport on ANZAC Day if they are in uniform or wearing medals.
