Woolworths management have confirmed that their Metro outlet in Kirribilli will close next year on January 2. After opening on the corner of Broughton and Burton St Kirribilli in 2019, the retail giant is pulling out of the area due to slow business and a lack of profitability.
Woolworths Group spokesperson told the Sun the underperformance of the site is due to “reduced foot traffic over a number of years.”

They also confirmed “The store will continue to trade as normal until its closure, and our valued team members are already in the process of being redeployed to other stores.” The closest Woolworths Metro on this side of the bridge is located in North Sydney CBD.
When the store opened six years ago, local businesses voiced concerns about what they saw as unfair competition. At the time Kirribilli House of Fruit owner Nick Economidis told News.com.au. “I didn’t sign the renewal of my lease because we can’t afford to play against these big boys,” Formerly the site was a Westpac Bank Branch.
The future of the site remains unclear, with no lease publicly advertised.
