North Sydney Council will become the first council in Australia to use a new digital platform designed to streamline development applications and planning approvals.
Council has selected Objective Build, a cloud-based system that will manage applications from lodgement through to determination. The platform will connect with the NSW Planning Portal and integrate planning workflows, maps, legislation, assessment templates and reporting.
Council said the system would reduce administrative work, improve visibility over the progress of applications and help planners keep pace with changing legislation.
North Sydney Council director of corporate services Olena Tulubinska said improving planning services for residents and ratepayers was a priority.
“Ensuring that we have the right housing to meet the needs of a growing population in our area is a critical pillar in our 2025–35 Community Strategic Plan,” she said.
“Implementing Objective Build will help us to provide efficient, transparent and accountable development assessments, which is an important step in achieving this goal.”
The platform’s developer, ASX-listed Objective Corporation, said North Sydney Council had helped shape the technology alongside other NSW councils.
Objective global vice-president of local government solutions Andrea Breen said the system had been designed specifically for the local government planning environment.
“We are delighted to see that the first deployment of Objective Build will support a local government community of mixed-density housing, diverse businesses and iconic landmarks,” she said.
Objective founder and chief executive Tony Walls said the technology was intended to “materially streamline the planning and building approval process”.
“Housing supply is one of Australia’s most significant challenges, impacting governments, communities and generations of Australians,” he said.
