A significant residential redevelopment on Carabella Street, Kirribilli, has been given the green light by the North Sydney Council, despite objections from neighbouring residents.

The approved development application for 22-24 Carabella Street involves the demolition of No. 22, the partial demolition of No. 24, and the construction of two four-storey residential flat buildings. The project will ultimately deliver 19 new apartments, supported by two levels of basement parking and associated landscaping. The total cost of the large-scale redevelopment is valued at $25,411,023.00.

The North Sydney Local Planning Panel considered the application on 5 November 2025 before it was formally approved on 14 November. The Panel expressed concern regarding the displacement of existing residents and stressed the importance of implementing a Resident Relocation Plan at the earliest possible stage. They also recommended minor adjustments to the location of windows to enhance amenity for future residents and surrounding neighbours.

Objections from the community focused primarily on construction noise, heritage impacts, and the project’s height limits. However, the Council ultimately stated its satisfaction with the revised plans and proceeded with the approval of the redevelopment. The approved plans involve building heights of 14.8 metres for No. 22 and 14.4 metres for No. 24, with a floor space ratio of 1.45:1.
