Coal Loader Cafe closes yet again

Management at Waverton’s Coal Loader have confirmed the on site ‘From Silvia’ cafe has closed. 

In a statement, a spokesperson from The Coal Loader said “We thank Silvia and her team for being part of the Coal Loader community”. 

The cafe at the Coal Loader originally opened in 2014 and was operated by Business Directions & Solutions, leasing the site from North Sydney Council. However, after 9 years of operation, the cafe fell into liquidation, owing creditors $81,000. At the time, management credited the downfall to“Covid, rain and the increased costs and staffing”.

After months laying vacant, Silvia Phillips picked up the lease in 2024. Phillips has built a strong reputation for her quality gluten-free and refined sugar free baked goods, which she sold at several markets around Sydney, including North Sydney and Willoughby. 

Management has ensured they will provide updates on the space and its future as soon as more information is available.
