North Sydney Council has approved 50 new trial designated parking zones. The move comes after the expansion of bike-share services into the North Sydney Local Government Area in November 2024, which the Council believes has led to footpath obstructions and inefficient bike distribution.

The 12-month trial, developed in collaboration with Transport for NSW, aims to enhance safety and reduce clutter by implementing geofencing and line markings to clearly identify parking locations.

These designated zones will be strategically located across Crows Nest, St Leonards, North Sydney CBD, and Milsons Point.

It is expected that North Sydney CBD and Milsons Point will have dedicated bike-share parking spaces rolled out by early April. Milsons Point will have two spaces, one on either side of the train station. Meanwhile, 24 spaces will be created in North Sydney CBD, primarily around Miller and Berry Streets.

Crows Nest and St Leonards Centre should expect 15 spaces by late April. Four spaces have been earmarked for Willoughby Road, Crows Nest, with two on either side of the metro station.

The initiative will be funded through the Active Transport Facilities Budget, with additional financial support sought from e-bike providers. A progress report on the trial’s effectiveness will be presented to the Council within six months of its commencement.
