For the 6th year in a row, Tunks Park in Cammeray has taken out the title of NSW Premier Cricket Lower Grades Ground of the Year award.

For head groundskeeper Bernie Vince this marks the 20th award he has helped to win in 26 years, winning three for Bon Andrews Oval, North Sydney and and 17 for Tunks Parks.

In a statement the North Sydney District Cricket Club expressed their gratitude for Vince “This mind-blowing achievement is testament to Bernie’s craft, dedication and the impeccable service he provides to players and umpires alike on matchday. We’re so proud of Bernie and are very lucky to be served by him and all of the North Sydney Council grounds team.”

The award is determined by the highest average score from umpire assessments of pitch performance, outfield, and maintenance in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades.

At the same awards night Norths’ Justin Avendano was named in Men’s First Grade team of the Year.

The history of cricket at Tunks Park dates back to the 1950s, when the sports fields were created by reclaiming a natural creek line and estuarine mudflats at the head of Cammeray’s Long Bay. Named after William Tunks, a state MP, and the first mayor of St Leonards, the park has evolved into a premier suburban cricket venue and public park.
