Norths Basketball have announced the resignation of their CEO Bret Mactavish.
The community-based non-for-profit association shared the news on social media on Tuesday, writing he was ‘embarking on a new chapter in his career’ less than two years after taking on the role.
He will be joining the recently opened NBA Basketball School Australia, a grassroots program by local sports management program Basketball Management in partnership with the NBA.
It is located in Bellevue Hill’s Cranbrook School and has quickly expanded north to Philip’s Christian College in Newcastle.
Mactavish joined Norths in June 2022, taking over from long-standing CEO Graeme Reid.
“Bret has played a critical role in the development, growth and success of Norths both on and off the court and we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavour at the NBA Basketball School Australia,” the association said.
“Bret has built a very capable team around him during his time with us and they will assist in the seamless transition to new leadership as we conduct a comprehensive search for a new CEO over the next couple of months.”
It added: “Our commitment to our basketball community is unwavering, and it is our priority to find the best individual to lead Norths into the exciting years ahead.”
Mactavish will remain in the role until the end of May.
