The Bombers have been named as been named as one of the nine foundation members of the New South Wales’ new premier competition Sydney Football League.
After a consultation process with the AFL Commission and Executive, AFL Sydney clubs, stakeholders and partners, the new Sydney-based premier competition was formed, set to kick off in 2027.
Organisers are hoping the competitions will improve the standard of football in Greater Sydney and improve professional pathways for players, coaches, umpires and officials.
AFL Chief Operating Officer Tom Harley said: “The Sydney Football League represents a significant investment by the AFL in the state’s football landscape.” adding “The depth of talent emerging from the state is undeniable. We are seeing more AFL and AFLW draftees from New South Wales, more local coaches progressing through the talent pathway and more officials making an impact across the game.”

There will be four divisions of competition when the SFL commences in 2027: Senior Mens, Senior Womens, Under 19.5 Mens and Under 20 Women.
The Bombers have confirmed they will be fielding senior Men’s & Women’s, U19.5 Men & U20 Women for the inaugural season.
SFL will replace the current AFL Sydney competition which the Bombers have been one of the most dominant clubs in boasting a combined 16 premier division titles across both men’s and women’s.
The tender process to enter the competition required clubs to satisfy a series of standards, while a panel considered the geographic spread of clubs to ensure a truly Sydney-wide competition representative of the key regions.
The SFL ‘Match of the Round’ across Senior Mens and Senior Womens will be broadcast live via Kayo Freebies on Kayo SPORTS.
