Three sisters have combined to help lead the UTS North Sydney women’s cricket seconds to a championship title on Sunday.
Captain Sophia Mavros took three wickets for just 21 runs to help bowl out opponent Gordon for a subpar 122 runs. Three Mavros sisters – Sophia, Alexandra and Aurora – scored a combined 92 runs of the 123 runs achieved for victory.
Alexandra top scored for North Sydney with 50 runs, while Sophia scored 18 and Aurora was unbeaten at the end for 24.
Another North Sydney bowler, Emily Aitken, also took three wickets.
The team had won seven consecutive matches prior to the Sunday final for the Women’s McDonalds NSW Premier Cricket Second-Grade Championship.
Alexandra was awarded Player of The Final.
They became the first UTS North Sydney women’s second-grade side to claim the trophy since 1977/78. The club ranked seventh overall in the women’s club championship even without a first grade side.
