It’s the time of year again, where the streets of North Sydney begin to feel like a Prince video clip under the purple of Jacaranda season. This year Council has formalised street closures to improve safety for locals and visitors.
Beginning October 31, McDougall Street, Kirribilli, between Clark Road and Willoughby Street—along with sections of Hipwood Street extending up to 50 metres from McDougall, will be closed to traffic. These settings will be in force every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 7:00PM for the following six weeks.

Although the council will be enforcing traffic changes, there is no formal event attached to the season. During the operational hours of the closure, traffic controllers will be stationed at checkpoints with vehicle access inside the perimeter strictly limited.
Residents living within the affected zone retain access to their properties provided they present photo ID confirming their address, and all motorists within the area are asked to maintain a cautious speed of 10 km/h and yield to pedestrians.
Visitors holding standard visitor parking permits will not be permitted entry within the closure zone. Mobility Parking Permit holders are permitted access provided their state-issued permit is clearly displayed and the permit holder is present in the vehicle. Additionally, rideshare services and taxis may enter only if accompanied by a resident carrying proof of address.
