North Sydney Olympic Pool forced to close just a week after reopening

Just a week after celebrating its long-awaited reopening, North Sydney Olympic Pool has been forced to close temporarily because of a power issue.

Swimmers and gym users arriving at the facility on Friday morning were met with signs advising that the entire venue was out of action.

In a statement posted on social media and displayed outside the pool, management said the facility was “temporarily closed while we sort out a power issue at the facility”.

“Our teams are working with technicians to get things back up and running as quickly as possible,” the statement said.

The closure comes only a week after the landmark pool reopened following five years of redevelopment, delays and substantial cost overruns.

It is the latest in a series of teething problems since reopening. The pool’s membership portal has experienced website disruptions, while an ongoing dispute with the operator of restaurant Aqua remains publiclly unresolved.

No timeframe has yet been given for when the pool will reopen.
