Mexican food chain Zambrero has opened a restaurant at Elizabeth Plaza in North Sydney, offering $5 burritos and bowls on Thursday to mark its official launch.
The outlet, at 2 Elizabeth Plaza, began trading last week and is open from 10.30am to 10pm, seven days a week.
It is the second Zambrero restaurant in Sydney to use self-ordering kiosks, following the introduction of the technology at its Kings Cross outlet.
The restaurant is located near North Sydney railway station and Victoria Cross Metro station and is primarily targeting workers and residents in the surrounding commercial precinct.
Zambrero Australia, New Zealand and North America chief executive Daryl McCormack said the company had received a strong response during the restaurant’s first week of trading.
“North Sydney represents an important step in our long-term growth strategy,” he said.
The restaurant serves Zambrero’s standard range of burritos, bowls and air-fried chips.
Zambrero was founded in Canberra in 2005 by medical student Sam Prince and has since expanded to more than 350 restaurants across Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Ireland and the United States.
Under its Plate 4 Plate program, the company funds the provision of a meal to a person in need for each burrito or bowl sold. Zambrero says the program has provided more than 100 million meals through organisations including Rise Against Hunger, Love Mercy and Foodbank.
The $5 opening promotion will run throughout Thursday, 23 July.
