Anita Gelato has opened its first North Sydney store at the Victoria Cross precinct, with the international dessert chain offering free gelato to the first 500 customers this Saturday.
The store at 155 Miller Street is open from 10am until late, seven days a week, and offers gelato, frozen yoghurt and desserts, including vegan, dairy-free and no-added-sugar options.
Anita Gelato will mark the opening by giving away free scoops to the first 500 customers from 10am on Saturday, June 27.
Founded in 2002 as a family-run gelato kitchen, Anita now operates 18 stores globally, including 12 in Australia. Its stores offer a rotating range of more than 150 flavours made on the premises.
The opening adds another hospitality operator to the Victoria Cross development above the Sydney Metro station, as Lendlease seeks to turn the precinct and surrounding section of Miller Street into a day-and-night dining destination.
Lendlease director of retail and place Monique de Cseuz said Anita’s arrival was an indication of the direction in which the precinct was developing.
“Anita is such a beloved brand and having them open on Miller Street is a real indication of where this precinct is headed,” she said.
“We’re building something really special here and we can’t wait for North Sydney to have their very own Anita.”
Anita Gelato marketing manager Gisèle Dussault said North Sydney was rapidly evolving into a destination in its own right.
“The community is vibrant, food-curious and always looking for quality experiences, and we believe Anita is a perfect fit for the precinct,” she said.
The Victoria Cross development occupies a full CBD block and includes the metro station, retail premises, public spaces and a commercial tower designed by Bates Smart.
Lendlease said all retailers in the development’s concourse would operate entirely on electricity powered through renewable energy purchases. Retailers are also required to reduce emissions associated with their fitouts and operations by at least 20% compared with similar retail benchmarks.
