A major pedestrian connection between North Sydney and Cammeray, across Abbott St, is set to receive an upgrade.

North Sydney Council is currently in the public consultation phase for a plan to install a new raised pedestrian crossing on Abbott Street near Miller Street. The project would also include kerb extensions on the northern side of Abbott Street and the western side of Miller Street.

Additionally, the plan would require the removal of one on‑street parking space on the northern side of Abbott Street to be removed as a measure to maintain clear sightlines for drivers approaching the intersection.

Currently the Abbott St crossing is not an allocated pedestrian crossing, instead only having a pedestrian island. The new crossing would be a zebra crossing, giving pedestrians the right of way. Abbott Street is a high activity street, hosting Norths Cammeray which has around 65,000 members, including a sizable gym that hosts 2,500 members.

The sites of the proposed crossing intersects with the high traffic Miller St, the main road of Cammeray and the major connection between North Sydney and Northbridge, via the Long Gully Bridge.

Public consultation on the project is now open and will conclude on 12 May 2026.
