Brittany is a distinct region in northwest France known for its Celtic roots and maritime heritage. Fittingly, the annual “Brittany Down Under” festival is coming to North Sydney’s Sub Base Platypus, on Sunday 8 February, from 10 am to 5 pm.
Following last year’s success, this unique day promises a mix of authentic Breton flavours, festive entertainment, and a celebration of Celtic culture. Attendees can expect traditional Breton music and to join in on the traditional circle dances. Live acts confirmed for the day include, Louzco Fouzco and The Folksters.

The Babyfoot tournament is back for another year, out to crown a foosball champion.
From delicate Crêpes and savory Galettes to fresh Oysters, Mussels, and crispy Fries, there will be plenty of unique food on offer. To properly toast the celebration, guests can raise a glass of Kerisac Cider or a beer, accompanied by a hearty “Yec’hed mat!” (Cheers in Breton).

Beyond the food and dance, the festival offers a dive into Brittany’s unique cultural heritage with a fiddle exhibit and a chance to claim a traditional Armor Lux Marinière, which is a famous striped shirt originally from the region.
Despite being a part of the French mainland the region is known by some as “Little Britain”. It’s believed Breton identity was shaped by British migrants fleeing Anglo-Saxon invasions in the 5th and 6th centuries.
“Brittany Down Under” promises to be a day full of unique culture, from the English channel to right here on the North Shore.
