North Sydney Council has recorded a $1.8 million decrease in parking revenue for the 2024/25 financial year. This reduction in user charges and fees is primarily attributed to two factors: the opening of the new metro line, which has led to a decline in demand for car parking, and increased competition from private car park operators.
Specific figures show the reduction across different parking categories. On-street parking revenue moved from $10,347,000 in 2023/24 to $9,302,000. Off-street parking revenue also saw a decrease, moving from $7,202,000 to $6,448,000.
Parking station revenue was specifically noted to have a $2 million reduction. The decreased demand resulting from the new metro has resulted in heightened competition for the Council’s parking assets.
Conversely, the Council experienced an increase in parking infringement revenue, which rose by 10% from $8,555,000 in 2023/24 to $9,438,000 in 2024/25. Furthermore, parking meter maintenance costs decreased significantly to $568,000, down from $1,087,000 in the previous year.
