The landlord of the building that houses the Milsons Point post office has put the site up for lease and is currently taking lease EOIs for the property. If the owner decides to choose another tenant then Australia Post could be forced to close the branch.
A spokesperson from Australia Post told the Sun “Australia Post has submitted an Expression of Interest for the tenancy at 18-20 Ennis Road, and will continue discussions with the landlord around future arrangements”
With the future of the service uncertain, locals have mobilised in an attempt to maintain the post office.
Venietta Slama-Powell is the owner of local business Bloomingales and has organised an online petition to save the Australia Post office. She said “The post office is an indispensable part of our community. For many, especially our older residents, it serves as a lifeline for essential services such as banking and paying bills.”

She adds “Post offices are crucial for local businesses and economies. They provide vital services that many vulnerable members in our community would struggle to access elsewhere. Any potential closure of this post office would not only inconvenience everyone but also jeopardise the ability to carry out basic tasks for many.”
Slama-Powell has started an online petition to show the community support for the post office. Kirribilli Markets has also thrown its support behind the campaign, urging its social media followers to sign the petition.
Slama-Powell also argues the office provides crucial services for locals who live in the Greenway government housing on Ennis Road. It is estimated at 85%+ of the 308 residents use the Post Office for their important banking and postal needs.
Judy, a Kirribilli local said “A wonderful post office is always very busy, cheerful and convenient. A great asset to our community.”

The heritage site is located beneath the Cahill Expressway, adjacent to Milsons Point Railway Station, and forms part of the northern approach to Sydney Harbour Bridge. The premises comprises a net lettable area of 211.10 m².
