Applications are open for community members with lived experience with a disability to join North Sydney Council’s new Access and Inclusion Committee.
The committee will advise Council on strategies and initiatives to make North Sydney more accessible and inclusive, with meetings four times a year.
It will also play a significant role in the implementation of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026.
Council’s Social Inclusion Strategy has already benefited from the committee’s guidance.
These include the implementation of new accessible parking at Waverton’s Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, improving website navigation for people with vision impairments and providing accessibility training for Council employees.
Young people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities are especially encouraged to apply.
“Council is grateful to the members of our new Access and Inclusion Committee for sharing their lived experience as well as their expertise and passion for improving outcomes for people with a disability,” Mayor Zoe Baker said.
‘Their guidance will be an invaluable resource as we work towards a more accessible and liveable community for everyone.”
Community information sessions on the establishment of the body were held in October last year.
More information and applications are available on Council’s website.
