Preferred plans for the Cremorne Plaza upgrade are set to be discussed at the next Council meeting on Monday.

Originally built in the early 2000s, it was decided in April 2015 an overhaul of the space was needed as a part of the Neutral Bay and Cremorne Masterplan.

Two design concepts were put to public exhibition and consultation at the beginning of last year.

Within the four month period, residents submitted 267 responses from online forms, the webpage received 2350 visits and Council ran multiple information sessions and site walk throughs.

“The key objective for upgrading these spaces is to create contemporary, inclusive public spaces, which align with the principles of ‘Place Making’,” the report reads.

“The proposed improvements will enhance the visitor experience through increased soft landscaping and canopy tree cover, which increase activation and encourage outdoor dining to support local businesses.”

Option 2 was preferred by locals and would include an overhaul of the area to include more greenery, places to gather as well as opening up the walkways for easier access to surrounding shopfronts.

Plans include the installation of trellises and plant pergolas to support the growth of Madagascar Star Jasmine, Bougainvillea and other climber species.

12 broad canopy evergreen trees such as Ivory Curl Tree will be planted alongside dry tolerant and succulent species to create an art deco style theme – prioritising native vegetation.

Art deco inspired planters, tiles and materials will also be selected, anchored by the pot-lined main thoroughfare through the middle of the space.

A shade feature, sporting bar stools, tables, artificial turf, play elements, and feature lighting will be covered by sailcloth for shade and light coverage from rain.

The preferred design option maximises outdoor public seating, providing a comfortable seating for over 170 people outside the designated dining space areas.

Due to the high traffic volume on the adjacent Military Road, plans include the installation of a large trellis running along the street.

It will feature a 20mm thick Noise Barrier Acrylic for soundproofing and protection from wind.

If the preferred design option is approved by Council it will advance into a final amendment design and documentation stage before future construction.
